Ovi Young Taking Over

Deovion “Ovi” Young, a 5’7’’ point guard from Divine Savior Holy Angels, is a decorated high-school basketball player that we are honored to showcase. Two years removed from the terrific feat of winning a state championship, Young will be beginning her own path to stardom as a college athlete next season. She is in no way bashful on the court. Ovi emphatically states, “I want to guard the other team’s best player!” Basketball has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember. Whereas some student athletes use basketball as an escape, Young states that basketball “drives me to be great and do what I got to do on the court.” She feels that she has an obligation to be on the court, and a duty to excel on it. With all the talent she possesses, Young choses to be a defensive presence on the court rather than strictly an offensive force. When it comes to learning, Young says she is “a very coachable person,” and she “loves to be pushed by [her] coaches.” In this era of players becoming more combative towards their coaches, Young acknowledges that her coaches know what’s best for her. This superstar athlete does more than just dish out assists on the court, she dishes out amazing food from her kitchen. Young says that cooking, “helps me to not procrastinate [in other parts of my life].” Her college coaches would be wise to promote her culinary habits in order to maximize her potential on the court.
